Automobiles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Officers mentioned they were notified by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then found numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials say early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.

A senior official said the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
